- Rich Spotlight: Bob Rathbun
- Grew up in Salisbury, NC and his first entry into sports broadcasting was at 12-years old when he called the local radio station
- First job was as a sports director at WSTP in Salisbury, NC in 1973 after graduating from Catawba College
- Marty Brennaman was very influential early in his career and would visit him during the summers and Marty helped Bob get his job in Virginia and was there for 14 years
- Left Virgina for baseball play-by-play with Detroit Tigers replacing the legend Ernie Harwell and it was the worst 3-years of his career
- Moved to Atlanta in 1996 after his time in Detroit
- Watches a lot of film to prepare but the biggest part of his prep is talking to people
- Feels that the art of storytelling is being lost in broadcasting
- Biggest memories of professional basketball was the old ABA days with the Carolina Cougars and hard to say one guy is the greatest basketball player
- Enjoys giving back and being a mentor because of the great mentors in his life such as Dr. Karl Hales at Catawba College
- Became a speaker for John Maxwell which ultimately led to writing a book “Fast Forward Winner”
- Sports has meant everything to him and a quote from Don Shula represents his feelings on his job in sports, “The closer I get to the stadium the faster I walk.”
- Words of Wisdom from Bob Rathbun: “No matter what your age, no matter where you see your station in life if you’ve got a heartbeat you can make positive change.”
