Kelsey Riggs: Comparisons steal your JOY
Show Notes:
- Grew up playing all sports and comes from a sports family so she can’t remember life without sports
- Sports isn’t just about the games but it’s also about the value of being on a team
- Soccer was her passion and wanted to play locally so family and other people that supported her could see her play and Charleston Southern was a great fit as a Division I school
- Has an older sister and a younger sister and her family is extremely close
- Remembers being in elementary school and the excitement that she felt getting to read the morning news for the entire school which began her thought of being a broadcaster
- Initially sent out hundreds of highlight tapes to get a job and was willing to move anywhere in the country
- WBTW in Myrtle Beach offered her a news anchor position and it was an opportunity to get in the business and it helped her build a foundation before she moved into a sports role at the station
- Moved to Charlotte to work for WCNC as a sports anchor and reporter while covering the Carolina Panthers
- Kelsey’s Kicks would start while covering the Panthers and Head Coach Ron Rivera would notice her shoes
- It’s been such a thrill helping launch the ACC Network because the people are like family to her
- Doesn’t focus on certain timelines and comparisons to others because she believes in the saying that ‘comparisons are the thief of joy’
- Words of Wisdom from Kelsey Riggs from her grandfather: “I hope that we could learn to see the beauty amongst the chaos of everyday life.”
